Sixth Form

The last two years of secondary education are arguably the most crucial. Our Sixth Form provides a stimulating and supportive environment in which students are encouraged to develop their own unique identities and become independent, resilient and mature young adults.

The Sixth Form Centre

The Sixth Form Centre provides a range of facilities to support learning and social interaction. We have quiet areas for working individually as well as dedicated spaces for collaborative study. Wireless internet access facilitates the use of personal technology to support learning, which is highly encouraged. The Sixth Form has its own catering, allowing students to purchase items throughout the day and during the busy lunch break. Social functions and events are a feature of Sixth Form life and highly value  the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students.

Sixth Form Curriculum

The entry requirement for our Sixth Form at St Christopher's is a minimum of five grades of 4 or above at GCSE (or equivalent). It is expected that you will have attained grade 4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent) as these will be required for entry to most universities. There are specific entry requirements for a number of subjects at A level and IB. Sixth Form students study 3 or 4 Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level subjects in Year 12.

IB Diploma

 

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

IB Diploma students are required to study six subjects (one taken from each of the groups). Of the six subjects, at least three must be taken at Higher Level (HL) and a maximum of three at Standard Level (SL). In addition to this, students follow a course in Theory of Knowledge, submit the Extended Essay and take part in the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) programme.

St Christopher’s has successfully offered the IB Diploma programme to Sixth Form students since 2008. The broad range of subjects and philosophy of the IB Diploma make it highly effective preparation for university study.

Careers and University

All students at St Christopher’s have access to extensive guidance to help them choose what to study, both in school and when moving on to university.

A team of teachers, including the University and Careers Guidance Counsellor, support students in their applications. Our Sixth Form Administrator helps students with transcripts and additional careers advice.

Year 11 students are able to learn more and ask questions at our annual Careers Fair. We also welcome career professionals into school at other times to make presentations. Students in Year 10 and above enjoy a subscription to Unifrog, an online platform with extensive careers advice.
