Learning Support
St Christopher’s Learning Support Departments aim to make a meaningful contribution to
the lives of children who face challenges along their learning path.
It is a combination of rigour and empathy which drives teaching and learning. We recognise that all of the
students that we support contribute a great deal to the diversity of our school community
and we are incredibly proud when we are able to see them flourish.
What do we offer at St Chris?
The Learning Support Department in the Primary School is set in a modern suite and staffed by a dedicated team of specialist teachers and learning support assistants who deliver a range of support.
This includes carefully targeted in-class support, small group teaching within our LS Clubs, and short one-to-one sessions as needed. During our withdrawal groups, students develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to allow them to access the curriculum with greater success and independence.
“St Christopher’s LS Department operates an ‘open door’ policy for all students and staff alike, and welcomes parents to drop in before school for a quick chat or by appointment”.
Our students are provided with the opportunity to develop transferable skills and strategies to take into other learning contexts. They are aware of their goals and are encouraged to take risks alongside a supportive adult.
We pride ourselves on our flexible, friendly and inclusive approach to learning support. The team works in close partnership with our students, parents, Leadership Team, the school counselling team, class teachers and specialist teachers, as well as outside agents, to ensure that we provide a fully integrated service across the school.
Our Senior School Learning Support offers in-class support that ensures our students receive immediate assistance tailored to their needs, fostering a more inclusive learning environment.
For more targeted help, students may be withdrawn from regular classes to participate in small group interventions, where focused attention allows for personalised instruction and skill reinforcement. Specific learning support lessons are also offered, covering a broad spectrum of the curriculum, enabling our students to build a solid foundation across various subjects.
This comprehensive support structure addresses individual learning challenges and promotes overall academic growth and confidence.
