Welcome to Year 5

Ralph Gosling

Year 5 Year Leader

Year 5 at St Christopher’s is a happy and purposeful place where pupils are confident and motivated learners. All our pupils have a good, positive attitude to work, to life and to other people and we encourage them to have an awareness of the needs of all whom they meet. Every pupil is encouraged, taught and challenged to work hard and learn lots!

Year 5 has its own distinctive atmosphere and learning environment, this is enhanced by the creative use of the central Activity Street as a learning hub. Classrooms are bright, colourful and stimulating learning environments, packed full of topical interactive displays and the children’s work. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards, computers, access to the internet and the school network.

Pupils work predominantly with their class teacher and receive specialist teaching in native or non-native Arabic, French, DT, Art, Music and PE, and enjoy swimming as part of the curriculum. In addition, all the classes have timetabled lessons in a fully equipped ICT suite.

Topic themes include; The Aztecs, The Tudors, and a geographical comparative study with each class selecting their own choice of country to study.

Our Year 5 pupils contribute to fundraising opportunities throughout the year as part of our “Go Global United World Schools” school build a school project to in Cambodia and take an active part in community service projects. Our Year 5 pupils’ main service projects involve supporting local charities.

Lessons in the classroom are regularly enhanced with visitors to the school and trips to various places of interest in and around Bahrain. Our school calendar is always full of events, trips and activities, from experiencing a Tudor Feast on Tudor Day to creating Aztec masks on Aztec Day. Trips include a tourist excursion around the island, taking in the most famous landmarks, developments and attractions the island has to offer.
