The BSME (British Schools in the Middle East) Young Musicians of the Gulf (YMOG) event was originally conceived in 1998 as a celebration of young musical talent within the Gulf, and has since become a most prestigious and high-profile competition in the region. St Christopher’s School is proud to have initiated and played host to an event of such magnitude since its creation, with only the exception of 2013, when it was held in Dubai.
Imagine a world without music... We must nourish our young people and allow them to explore all options during school so that they have the opportunity to choose the path less travelled. And YMoG is a very small part of what we do at St Christopher’s, what all schools here today do, to give students these opportunities for success. - Simon Watson, Principal
We were delighted to host a celebratory 20th Anniversary edition of the Young Musicians of the Gulf in the Kingdom of Bahrain in January 2019. Participants from schools across the Gulf region competed during four days of musical competition. The standard of performing is consistently very high, with the average age of participants being between 14 and 17 years.
In the lead up to the Grand Final, all the musicians have opportunities to attend Master Classes led by distinguished international adjudicators, who fly into Bahrain earlier in the week. Adjudicators are selected based on musical expertise and experience, and we have been fortunate to welcome world prominent names from the international stage in recent years.
