Our Sixth Form

Post-16 students are offered a varied range of subjects from which to choose from either the A level degree or IB Diploma. Each year, we publish our 'Sixth Form' Prospectus to help aspiring students make the right choices. Click on the above links to view the current A-level and IB Diploma subject ranges offered - feel free to download the entire document or pick and choose the subjects that interest you. ('Sixth Form' is the term commonly used in the UK to describe the two years of Post-16 Education before University.)
A place in The Guardian's Top Ten International Schools in the world does not come without the determination to constantly improve; our Sixth Form boasts a united student body encouraged by a multicultural society which ensures a safe and friendly learning community for all.

The environment our Sixth Form creates is one that constantly encourages and challenges our A level and IB students to excel in their subjects of choice. Although a huge step beyond the GCSE Syllabus our students balance their scheduled classes with private work in their allocated study periods. The A-Level and IB programs allow students to use their own initiative, develop their time management skills, and prepare themselves for the many hurdles they have yet to face during university life.

The introduction of the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) at St Christopher's, alongside a very successful A-level program, has not only enhanced our sense of international mindedness, but has given students more opportunities in their academic careers. From the words of a first year IB student,
"The IB Diploma allows us to question our surroundings. I've benefited greatly from all of my community involvement; it has shaped me into a more well- rounded person."

Sixth Form students are fortunate to have a self contained building which hosts facilities that allow our students to experience a comfortable environment that prides itself on the mix between work and social activities. The centre itself is made up of a Computer Room, Study Area, Kitchenette, Common Room, two classrooms and a private resource room. The ICT area provides access to computers for Sixth Form students as well as an area for quiet private study. The central area in the Sixth Form Centre has earned its reputation as the place where students can participate in group study discussions. It is equipped with several round, group tables, as well as a couple of communal computers used for group projects. The Post-16 block has been equipped with wireless internet access which is especially beneficial for those students who chose to bring their personal laptops into school for private study.

One of the many perks of Sixth Form life is the private access to the Kitchenette. Equipped with an array of facilities that vary from the large fridge, toasters and many microwaves to the endless supply of tea and coffee making amenities, this room is always buzzing with activity. Fresh food consisting of healthy snacks, hot meals and fresh juices is delivered to the Sixth Form centre on a daily basis for the students; an added luxury of being a pre-university student. The Common Room is a place for students to relax. It offers a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere where students can spend their break times and talk amongst themselves.

However, being part of the Post-16 education offered at St Christopher's is not just about the facilities the school offers; it's the environment and the manner in which the school operates that has contributed greatly to its success. Developing school spirit and a strong student body is a constant goal throughout the school. The Sixth Form, in particular, hosts an array of social gatherings to build a strong bond between Year 12 and Year 13 students. Events such as the Annual Ghabga, an Arabian styled evening where students are invited to wear traditional dress, taste authentic food and experience aspects of the Arabian culture, which offers students the chance to socialise with fellow students. It is the Year 12 and Year 13 students who are expected to work together to pull off this successful event. Another major event that features in the Post-16 social calendar is the annual Summer Ball; organized by representatives of Year 12, soon to be Year 13 students, who make up the Senior Team. This event is the bitter sweet end to the academic year, where Year 13 students say their final Good Bye to school life, whilst the Year 12 students welcome the Year 11 students into Post-16 education.

There are many enrichment activities available to pre-university students at St Christopher's. Overseas trips are important to us as they offer us the opportunity to experience different styles of life. It is possible participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (also known as the International Award) or travel to countries such as India, Thailand and Tanzania on community service trips. In the past, students have not only gained valuable insight into the lifestyles of people in less developed countries and experienced new cultures but have been able to offer their practical skills and help the less fortunate communities.

St Christopher's Sixth Form provides a great transition period for the last two years of your schooling. The warm, welcoming atmosphere in the Sixth Form Centre encourages students to reach their full potential as young adults while providing a conducive atmosphere in which to strive for top academic results. Our fellow students have an impressive history of gaining outstanding results, allowing a successful transition into top universities world wide; yet it is the open-minded maturity of the ex-students that St Christopher's can be proud of most.

As pre-university students ourselves, we are proud of the excellent standard of teaching we receive across all of our subjects. We are especially proud of the professional dedicated and hard work given to us on an individual basis from our teachers, who enthusiastically encourage us to achieve our very best academically. It is that special atmosphere in the Sixth Form that has allowed our teachers to contribute so easily to our school life.

The special experience that the St Christopher's Sixth From has given us leaves uswith fond memories of our last years of schooling, whilst fully preparing us for the next chapters of our lives. Coupled with living in a multi-cultural society, we leave this school with an open mind and new lease for life.
