Welcome to the Year 5 pages! Year 5 is a very important year for pupils. In this year group we ensure that children are prepared academically and personally for life in Year 6 and beyond. We expect children to be well organised and able to work with increasing independence to help them to cope with the challenges they will face in their future school careers. We believe that children in Year 5 are old enough to be responsible for ensuring they have the correct equipment at all times, whether it be PE kit or homework.
In Year 5 we believe that children learn better when motivated by interesting and enjoyable activities. We always look for new ways of stimulating children’s learning and making the curriculum come to life. One way that we do this is by having special days that link to specific curriculum areas. These include:
- Term 1: Tudor Day
- Term 2: European & Arabic Food Day
- Term 3: Aztec Day
The classrooms in Year 5 are either side of a corridor that we call our Activity Street. This is an extra learning area outside the classrooms, ideal for drama activities, role play and group work. Each term it is decorated to reflect one of our curriculum areas:
- Term 1: Tudors - with a working Tudor kitchen, prison with stocks and royal throne room
- Term 2: English book study theme & Europe and Bahrain
- Term 3: Aztecs - with a sacrificial chamber and temple, market area and games zone
