After Year 1 had impressed their parents, it was soon time for Year 2 to step up and score as many points as possible for their House.
News had already reached the Year 2 team that Falcon had won the Year 1 Swimming Gala and that Mrs Dawson had finger ache from punching the scores into her calculator! The pressure was on for Year 2 to rise to the challenge and swim as hard, and score as many points, as they could.
And they did! As soon as the goggles were fixed in place, Year 2 were out to cause repetitive strain injury to Mrs Dawson’s fingers! They swam fast on the frogboards placing quoit after quoit in the basket; they swam freestyle and backstroke with a streamlined body position; they propelled the ball through the water with ease, scoring goal after goal in the Basketball and Water Polo events; they glided through the hoop, picking up lots of sinking toys! It was both exciting and highly enjoyable to watch the children having such fun in the water, proving to us all that their swimming lessons have paid off!
Again, the swimming teachers were on hand and the Year 6 House Captains supported the swimmers with their expert knowledge in each activity. We were all sad to come to the end of the gala, but full of excitement and anticipation at the final results.
Falcon scored the most points in the Basketball Shoot activity, while Merlin were victorious in the Motorbike Noodle event. Osprey scored more points than anyone else in the Frogboard Relay and Kestrel scored the most goals in the Water Polo Shoot activity.
With the Year 2 Swimming Gala Cup in full view, everyone was eagerly awaiting Mr Fellows’ announcement of this year’s winners. It was very close, with only a few points separating 1st place and 4th place. The results were:
-
1st place - Merlin
-
2nd place - Falcon
-
3rd place - Osprey
-
4th place - Kestrel
Well done to all the swimmers and a big thank you to everyone that helped make this a highly successful event!
