Dressed in pyjamas and armed with their favourite bedtime book and cuddly, the Nursery children enjoyed a morning of ‘Bedtime Stories’.
Mr Fellows visited every Nursery class to read his favourite bedtime story ‘I want a Sister’ written by Tony Ross.
Yr 4 students shared their choice of stories with the children. Their animated reading styles and questioning skills were fantastic.
The day ended with a Bedtime Assembly. Tucked under covers and snuggled in with their toys, the children listened to Jill Murphy’s story ‘A Quiet Night In’.
Remember Parents: The importance of bedtime stories can be measured by the joy they bring to your children. Sweet moments of snuggling, bonding, talking, laughing, and loving with your kids are invaluable. Don't take this time for granted because your children certainly don't. Give your kids a happy ending to each and every day and please don’t stop sharing a bedtime story with them even when they can read for themselves!
And the extra benefits?
Storytelling improves IQ, literacy and maths skills.
Your bedtime story will not only provide a time for you and your child to develop emotionally, it also helps your child grow intellectually! Children who hear and tell stories subtly learn skills such as sequencing, categorising, creative thinking, prediction, memory, characterisation and more. Even if you do not know what all those terms mean, your child’s brain is subconsciously practicing and applying these skills.
