Tuesday
Yet again we awoke to glorious sunshine and blue skies. Following breakfast, the group headed for our local Metro station, Bir Hakeim. A quick change at Charles de Gaulle - Etoile allowed us to proceed to Anvers with our eventual destination being Montmartre and La Place du Tertre. A jaunty climb took us to the foot of Sacre- Coeur where the students adopted a local violinist, singing along as they overlooked the vast panorama of Paris. Candles were lit in the Basilica and then it was time for protraits and caricatures and souvenir shopping, culminating in a small train ride round the area. Then, it was off on the Metro, lunch and the Opera. Lunch was taken in the most elegant of cafes overlooking the Opera House itself, a stunning location much appreciated by the children who are gently transforming into very chic and stylish Parisians. The Opera House was simply beautiful with the room of chandeliers drawing audible gasps. Slightly flagging now, it was time to withdraw to the hotel to shower and prepare for dinner and a sunset cruise along the Seine. This was a very joyful moment as the bateau-mouche was crowded with excited throngs of people determined to sing and wave their way through the heart of this beautiful city. The cruise was followed by a constitutional walk around the Champ de Mars to join the massed spectators to see the Eiffel Tower illuminations. This Tower has now become a good friend of the St Chris family here. Journals were completed in the foyer prior to bedtime. A good day which will be undoubtedly engrained in the hearts and on the minds of this very sophisticated, interested and articulate group of young people. All is very well.
Bonne nuit a tous....
