Year 5 Tudor Day

Astounding, fantastic and wonderful were comments made about this years Tudor feast day. The amazing food, costumes, music and dances all contributed to help bring the Tudors to life for Year 5.

Henry VIII and his six wives made a special guest appearance at the Tudor Day feast…. no wait, it wasn’t the actual King- although, Lucas Rothwell in fancy dress did do a super job at taking on the character of the notorious Tudor King though! The whole of Year 5 took on their roles as Tudors equally as well, having all spent many weeks in preparation for the highlight of their history project.

From jesters to executioners, Kings and Queens, the pupils put into practice all they had learnt about Tudor clothing, to help bring the day to life. Much hard work and effort had been put in by pupils, parents, teachers…and of course, several bemused tailors, to make these costumes as authentic as possible. The costumes didn’t just end at the pupils- Year 5 staff also put on their best outfits for the occasion

As well as transforming their clothing; golden goblets, candelabras and silver plates also helped to make over the hall- really adding to create a traditional Tudor ambience. Much hard work and effort was put into creating this by the Year 5 teaching assistants, Mrs Eaton and Mrs Jenkins, as well as the many parent helpers who volunteered. It was fantastic to see so many parents getting involved- it really helped add to the community feel of the day.

Mrs Bataineh summed up the day when she said, ‘This day really does show just how much the pupils have learnt!”

A huge thank you goes out to all of those involved in the day- not just to those who were able to attend but all of those people who worked behind the scenes too. Mr Dawson, Year 5 leader, was especially pleased at the success of the day and has already begun to make plans to try to make next years even better!
