Term 3’s Dance Assembly Goes Down A Storm!
Last term ended with an array of dances from around the world. Year 1 through to Year 6 performed in individual and cross-phase dances.
Year 1 and 2 started off the afternoon with a Maypole dance called “The Barber’s Pole.” They skipped to the beat to create a stripy pattern. The Year 6s followed to dance two very challenging Maypole Dances, “The Spider’s Web” and “The Single Plait.” All were performed exquisitely. Year 1 and Year 2 kept us in the English countryside for some Morris dancing. Year 1 used the handkerchiefs, while Year 2 showed that they knew how to dance with sticks. To entertain the audience while dances were being set up, some rather slivery “Crazy Frogs” showed off some “crazy” moves!
The dances that followed took us to different countries around the world. Year 1 took us to India and Pakistan to show off their Bhangra moves. What followed was a truly cross-phase dance. Children from Year1 through to Year 6 formed a circle to dance the Capoeira, a dance from Brazil that mimics the movements of martial arts. With the crowd clapping to the rhythm of the music, the atmosphere was great! Next stop was America for some Rock ‘n Roll performed simultaneously by Year 2 and Year 6. The staff donned their checked shirts and cowboy hats for some line dancing and Year 1 through to Year 6 rounded off the afternoon with some stunning break-dance moves. Well done to everyone involved. A great way to end the year on a high!
