Swimming

At St Christopher’s School there are two curriculum swimming seasons, these being autumn and summer. However, the Swim Squad train all year round.

The lessons in the autumn term at the Primary school run from the beginning of the academic year (September) and continue until the pool becomes too cold, this is normally the beginning of November. This gives the students usually a 9 week block of curriculum swimming. The Reception children start a little further into the term (2-3 weeks later), enabling the PE/swimming teacher to establish names, rules, behaviour on pool side etc. Ensuring that every child feels safe and secure with their new swimming teacher and within the pool environment.

The lessons in the summer term begin in the first week of term and continue for the entire term, ensuring the students in the primary school receive about 12 weeks of curriculum swimming. Therefore, all students in the primary school will receive 21 weeks of curriculum swimming per academic year.

The provision of swimming in the senior school is slightly different and detailed in the Senior curriculum information below.
