Support |

| Description |
| The Learning
Support Base is a welcoming room, open to
staff and students. Departments are invited
to appoint Key Teachers to communicate and
coordinate regularly between subject departments
and Learning Support. Learning Support aims
to provide individual, structured programmes
and additional help for students requiring
support above that which is normally provided
within the classroom. Programmes are designed
to promote independence, a respect for others
and the development of self-esteem whilst
striving to provide a happy, sensitive and
secure environment which facilitates learning.
A variety of methods are used to support students,
including: individual tuition in basic skills,
small group tuition, support within classes,
differentiated work and curriculum support.
Students with learning difficulties are identified
as soon as possible using: referral from Q&G,
referral from previous school, referral from
teachers, entrance test results, observation
by Learning Support staff, diagnostic tests,
parental concerns. The Learning Support team
will always respond to concerns raised by
teachers or parents. Students with the most
pressing needs will be given priority where
resources are not available to meet the needs
of all students. Once identified, students
are placed on the Learning Support Register;
a copy of the register is held by Learning
Support teachers and Key Teachers. Communications
from Learning Support are on yellow paper
for ease of identification. |
