| Description |
The
PE Department consists of four specialist
teaching staff that teach across the age and
ability range. There is also input from other
members of staff in Key Stages 4 & 5. The
department is fully equipped for all aspects
of the subject, including video and information
communication technology equipment. The time
allocation for Physical Education in all Key
Stages is 5% and 15% for those pupils following
the GCSE course in Key Stage four and the
AS course in the 6th form. By teaching a variety
of sporting activities, providing information
and by assessment and evaluation, we aim to
develop in pupils a positive attitude towards
adopting a healthy lifestyle. There are opportunities
for pupils to compete at House, School, National
and International level in many sporting activities.
In addition, well-supported clubs in recreational
or non-competitive areas exist, and pupils
are equally encouraged to take part for fitness
or leisure, as well as for excellence. The
department fulfills the requirements of the
National Curriculum through a broad, balanced,
relevant, progressive, differentiated and
therefore challenging programme. It is also
the intention of the department to promote
and provide a learning environment whereby
students become healthy, knowledgeable and
physically literate via active participation. |
