In preparation for World Peace Day on 21 September 2011, the Year 11 Prefects organised a range of activities to mark this important occasion. Students of all ages were encouraged to enter a Peace Logo Design Competition and a Peace Poem Competition. The winning design, by Hiba Makhdum, was printed on the Peace T-Shirts, which were worn by the students throughout the day. Stanzas from each Year Group were written and collated as one Peace Poem across the School. Two languages were added to the Peace Pole, which was erected in the School Garden.
To further enhance awareness of World Peace Day, Year 11 Prefects read Peace quotes over the PA system each morning and gave addresses at Year Group assemblies. Each Form designed a Peace Tile, which will form part of a Peace Wall in a designated area in the School. A Volleyball match versus the staff was played, students wore Peace ribbons and an aerial photo was taken of the students who created the Peace Flower. Megan McMurdo read her very moving poem “I Dream of Peace” just before noon, which was followed by a minute’s silence observed by the Whole School.
