London Art/Drama Trip

This year the London Drama/Art trip enjoyed beautiful sunny days on the banks of the Thames. The group of 25 students soon felt at home at our base at the Premier Inn, Southwark, just a stone’s throw from Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern; an ideal location for this tremendous cultural trip. Not long after landing and checking in to the hotel, we were attending our first exhibition at Tate Modern by Gabriel Orozco. The following day students enjoyed a trip to Chelsea to see an excellent modern exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, followed by a brilliant production at the Royal Court called Wastwater by Simon Stephens. Subsequent days were spent at Tate Britain, as well as the Hayward Gallery, where we enjoyed more contemporary work by some of Britain’s leading young artists and retrospectives on Susan Hiller and a wonderful collection on Watercolour, which was truly inspirational. Theatre trips included: seeing the National Theatre production of War Horse in the West End, as well as The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre and an amazingly funny but also moving production of Flare Path by Terence Rattigan at the Haymarket directed by Trevor Nunn. This was made all the more memorable as students got to meet Sheridan Smith and Sienna Miller at the stage door afterwards. On the final day, after some rigorous shopping on Oxford Street, the group watched the musical Wicked at the Apollo Victoria. It was an immensely successful trip. The students were a delight to be with and really took the opportunity to soak up the plethora of new experiences that London had to offer; from the highbrow entertainments of the theatre and art galleries to the street entertainers in Convent Garden and the sights, sounds and smells of Camden Lock market!
