The Grand Final of the Key Stage 3 Public Speaking Competition, organised by Ms Jennifer Herron of the English Department, took place on Tuesday 21 June 2011. Following a dramatic Percussion performance by 8A students Evie Robinson, Ahmed Al Watani, Rakan Elias, Ben Dienst, Haris Rosli and Safura Shaharuddin and opening addresses by Mr Steven Keeble and Mr Ken Haggarty, the nine Finalists were invited to the lectern to deliver their speeches to the assembled audience comprising all students in Year 9, parents and teachers. All of the speakers proved to be excellent orators and the adjudicators, Ms Claire Bridgman, Mr Haggarty and Mr Keeble had a very difficult task to decide upon the eventual Trophy winners. During the adjudication process, the audience were treated to a stylish acoustic performance by 9G students Fred Bamber (Guitar) and Persia Honar (Voice) and highly accomplished Violin and Saxophone solos by Raoul D’Souza 7A. In his closing remarks, Mr Wilson congratulated all the students on the excellence of their speeches and the musical performances and presented Certificates to Raoul D’Souza 7A, Rea Karani 8B, Rishi Kumra 8E, Anuja Jaiswal 8A, Hunneya Siddiqui 9F and Iris Christofides 9E and Trophies to Eleonore Lorijn 7G (3rd Place), Aasima Rojubally 7G (2nd place) and Louisa MacDonald 9E (1st Place).
