Junior Sports Days

An exciting two days for the junior school!
The weather was not going to stop Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 enjoying their sports days. After being forced to cancel the original date due to rain, the sun eventually came out for some great competition.
After weeks of practice, Year 3 and 4 were the first to enjoy their Inter-House Sports Day. Year 3 competed in the morning, while Year 4 stepped up to the challenge in the afternoon. The four Houses competed against each other in various activities, including hurdles, slalom run, obstacle course, ball throw and javelin. All teams strived to score as many points as they could. The Year 6 House Captains each led a team around the events and kept score of the points. This year pupils were introduced to a sprinting race. Having covered sprinting in PE lessons, it was a great opportunity for Year 3 and 4 to run as fast as they could and attempt to beat their opponents.

The final results in the Year 3 Sports Day were:
1st Kestrel (200 House points)
2nd Merlin (175 House points)
3rd Falcon (150 House points)
4th Osprey (125 House points)

The final results in the Year 4 Sports Day were:

1st Kestrel (200 House points)
2nd Merlin (175 House points)
3rd Falcon (150 House points)
4th Osprey (125 House points)

Well done to both year groups! You showed great sportsmanship and teamwork. We look forward to next year!

Year 5 and 6 run, throw and jump with great success!

Year 5 and 6 were spurred on after hearing of the success of Year 3 and 4 on their Sports Day the day before. They entered the Sports Hall full of excitement and determination. Having tackled the various areas of athletics in PE lessons, both year groups were fully prepared to take on the challenges of the day.
In Year 5 and 6, Sports Day takes on a slightly different format to Year 3 and 4, which prepares them for Year 7 and BSME Games. This is their first experience of a proper ‘athletics meet’ in which they sign up for the areas that they feel confident in. They then are called to compete against the other Houses in their selected event. The events include High Jump, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Shot Putt, Javelin, Discus, 55m sprint, 100m sprint 300m and 600m. In addition to those, there are the ever exciting relays!
All Houses showed great support for their teams, cheering and encouraging all the participants through each of their events.
The final results were very close with not many points difference between first place and fourth place. The results were:

1st Osprey (200 House points)

2nd Falcon (175 House points)
3rd Merlin (150 House points)
4th Kestrel (125 House points)

Well done to everyone who signed up to compete for their House and to everyone who cheered and supported their team. You are as valuable as the participants themselves!

Year 5, we look forward to seeing you compete next year. Year 6 good luck in your next Sports Day which will be in the Senior School!
