In February half term eight students took part in a drama festival in a beautiful little town called Starnberg See, just south of Munich and on the edge of the snowy German Alps. The festival was run by ISTA (International Schools Theatre Association) and consisted of a combination of small workshops (in skills like stage combat and physical theatre) and larger group work led by inspirational professionals. The festival culminated in performance pieces that involved integrating various forms of media with drama. The students had fun making friends from all around the world, socialising with them whilst wandering around Munich and on the trip to the Bavaria Film Studios (where ‘Das Boot’ was filmed), and they also enjoyed the chance to stay with German families and experience some of that culture too.
