Infants: Mathematical Development
In Mathematical Development we aim to cover important aspects of mathematical understanding and provide the solid foundation on which to further develop mathematical concepts.
  • Sorting – categorising objects by 1 or more similarities or differences
  • Number - initially 1-10 then progressing to 20 and beyond, adding & subtracting including a firm grounding in the related vocabulary
  • Shape & Space - 2d and 3d shapes, symmetry and tesselation
  • Comparing measures
  • Pattern - sound, movement & visual patterns using 2 or more variables
A sound understanding of these basic concepts is fostered through a wide variety of practical activities both directed and independent. Number work also includes number rhymes and songs, jigsaws and utilising all opportunities for counting throughout the School day.
