Infants: Knowledge and Understanding of the World

In Knowledge and Understanding of the World the children learn through topics including:-

    Colours

    Water

    Eid

    Christmas

    Habitats (Polar, Rainforest & Desert)

    Growing

    Fairy Tales

    My Body

    Food

    Minibeasts

We aim to develop the child's knowledge of the environment, other people and features of the manmade world providing a foundation for scientific and technological learning. We encourage children to think about and predict what might happen in various situations - to observe carefully and verbalise these observations. Planning is promoted by encouraging the children to suggest “how can we…” Encouraging children to share their opinions is a vital step in the process toward effective evaluation.

Learning is promoted through numerous activities including role-play, stories and non-fiction books, practical experiments, model making in permanent and temporary medium, painting, drawing and labelling to record observations. Regular visits to the ICT suite, the interactive whiteboard and videos also play a vital part in this learning area.
