Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 is the start of the Junior School and a hive of industrious learning. The Year 3 Activity Street is the vibrant heart of the year group. It can be accessed from each of the Year 3 classrooms. Here, Learning Support Assistants, Teaching Assistants and Parent Volunteers are able to work with small groups of pupils. Parent Volunteers join us to work with reading groups and to support art and craft activities. A raised area at the end of the Activity Street is used to re-create Tutankhamen’s tomb and then is transformed later in the year into a working Roman barracks.

Among the key events that take place in Year 3 are Ancient Egypt Day in Term 1, when the whole year group dress up and take part in topic-related activities during the course of the day. Year 3 also perform a Cantata of songs that reflect the learning of the year.  Term 3 takes on a Roman theme with a Roman feast and even a Roman battle! Pupils work predominantly with their class teacher and receive specialist teaching in native or non-native Arabic, Music and PE, and enjoy swimming as part of the curriculum. In addition, all the classes have timetabled lessons in a fully equipped ICT suite.

Topic themes include; Ancient Egypt, Romans and a geographical comparative study; France and Cambodia.

Our Year 3 pupils take an active part in community service projects and create gift bags from recycled materials  that are then sold to support community service projects. Our Year 3 pupils also raise money for our “Go Global united world school’s” school build a school project in Cambodia via various whole school events.

Year group trips include a trip to the Science Centre, Saar Dentist and a fun trip to the cinema. Year 3s also utilise the knowledge of a resident volcano expert!
