The Infant and Junior School bounded into Health and Fitness Week with all the enthusiasm you would expect from St Christopher’s pupils!
For three of the mornings Mrs Etches, Miss Dracup, Mr Stephenson, Mr Fish and Mr Holness joined Miss Lambert on stage out on the Tiger Turf for morning aerobics. It was great to see Infants, Juniors, parents and staff all joining in on the “Wake Up Workout.” It was a fantastic way to start the day and children found themselves full of energy going into their lessons.
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 all enjoyed their chance to “beat the teacher” at the bleep test. Mr Holness showed that his army days were not in vain when he was challenged by all the year groups! The last children running were Luke Doyne and Matthew Litvin in Year 3. Mr Van der Eyken put his running shoes to the test against Year 4. Well done to Danny Haggerty, Danni Doherty and Charlotte Axtel who were the last ones up to the challenge. Mr Stephenson and Mrs Holness ran against Year 5 with George Axtel and Halle Sword being the last ones standing! A big turn out in Year 6 proved tricky for Mr Armstrong and Mr Ross. Isabel Robinson was the last girl, with Charles Sissons and Gregor Sword left battling it out in the end. Well done to everyone who competed. It was great to see so many of you showing such perseverance and determination.
Healthy Lunch boxes
The Junior school were lucky enough to be invited to daily food demonstrations with Mrs Lee. The focus of the sessions was on how to make healthy food to go in their lunch boxes.
The children were fully involved in making each recipe by cutting, mixing and most importantly, tasting the produce! You can find some of the recipes on the opposite page.
Foods included salsa, coleslaw and a delicious yoghurt and fruit mixture which saw a dramatic increase in numbers joining the tasting line!
A big thank you to Mrs Lee for hosting these delicious demonstrations. I hope you find the recipes useful and enjoy healthy and exciting treats in your lunch boxes from now on!

Inter-House Tasting Challenge
A round up of the week saw the Infants and Juniors enjoy a fun packed assembly that included dancers from the Bellare company, a video of the various events in the week and the all important “Inter-House Tasting Challenge!”
The teachers were challenged to get their tastebuds activated and sample 4 different foods. The Year 6 House Captains were on hand to help in the Junior assembly, while some excited Infants couldn’t wait to feed their teachers in the Infant assembly. As each teacher was blindfolded and awaiting the food, the children were shown a picture of the food on the screen.
Well done to Miss Bruce and Mrs Holness who represented Falcon, Mr Brandreth and Mr Watts who tasted for Kestrel, Mr Clifton and Mr Stephenson who were blindfolded for Merlin and Miss Hamill and Mrs Etches who scribbled the right answers for Osprey.
Osprey and Falcon came joint first with 80 points, Merlin second with 60 and Kestrel third with 50 points. The fiendish foods were Saurkraut, pickled onion, coconut milk and gherkins!
