Food Demos, Aerobics & the Tasting Challenge

Mrs Lee and her group of helpers proved to the whole school that healthy and delicious lunch time snacks could be made in just 5 minutes! Infant and Junior children had the opportunity to see for themselves how to make ‘Squash in the bowl’ hummus using all fresh ingredients. The children discovered the health benefits of the different ingredients and were able to give their own ideas on how to jazz up their own hummus at home. Any pupils who are able to recreate the recipe at home should take a photograph of themselves in the kitchen and can take it to Mrs Lee in Year 5 for a house point!

For the last three days of the week Miss Lambert, Mrs Etches and Miss Dracup took to the stage and led aerobics each morning to the whole school: children, teachers and parents. It was fantastic to see everyone moving in time to the music, and what a great way to start the day! People went away feeling happy and energised for the day!

To round off the week 4 members of staff from the Infant School and 4 members of staff from the Junior School represented their House in a “Tasting Challenge”. Ably assisted by the House Captains, teachers were blindfolded and asked to touch and taste 4 items of fruit. Using the visualiser, the audience were shown the fruit, but had to keep the secret until the teachers had written down their guess. Well done to Mrs Holness and Mr Tonks who represented Falcon; Mr van der Eyken and Mrs Brandreth represented Kestrel; Mr Stephenson and Mr Churchill represented Merlin; and Mrs Mulleague and Mr Evans for representing Osprey. When added together Merlin proved that their taste buds could not be fooled with 80 points, while each of the other houses stumbled over one item, giving them 70 points. Well done!

It was fantastic to see everyone so involved in Health and Fitness week. Let’s all try to maintain those healthy lifestyles!
