The final of the F1 in schools challenge took place on Sunday. 13 different teams took part, and teams were made up of students from across the senior school. Team Eclipse was crowned the 2010 F1 in Schools Champions of Bahrain. The team members are Jean Clive Bailey, Nazar Abubaker, Krishna Subramani, Kripa Balachandran, Ahmed Mohseni and Marc Steene. The team will now travel to Singapore to compete in the world wide challenge.
Team Eclipse scored the highest number of points in the competition, which is made up of a number of different sections. The activities included, a 10 page portfolio, a 5 minute verbal presentation, use of CAD/CAM, car design and branding as well as racing their 1/20th scale model car down a 20 meter track. Although their car was second fastest, only bettered by Team Typhoon, Team Eclipse driver Marc Steene produced the best reaction time. Team Phoenix, Ayesha Shaheen, Sanjana Sarkar and Maryam Helmi narrowly beat Flames of Destiny, Rishi Kumra, Nathen John, Sheran Mendis and Marvin Furst, in a hard fought contest for the Best Key Stage 3 team. Other sub category winners were Team Blu, who were crowned the judges favourite and Team Nvatia for the Best Team Presentation.
