The House Captains lead their first assembly to Nursery through to Year 6!
Year 6 House Captains worked hard in their final week leading up to the December holidays to work out how they were going to deliver the final 2011 assembly.
It’s been a busy time for House competitions with Junior Swimming Galas, Junior Sports Days, the ongoing Library quiz, and Inter-House Singstar. With this in mind, we came up with an exciting addition to the assembly - Inter-House Staff Singstar!
The Falcon House Captains began the assembly by congratulating this term’s Library winners, Joseph Hope and Dhruv Kotecha from Osprey, Callum Dawson from Kestrel and Colby Altman from Falcon. Well done to those people!
Before handing over to the Kestrel House captains, Falcon introduced the first of the Singstar competitors. In celebration of 50 years of the school being open, all songs were chosen to be as close to 50 years ago as possible. Mr Coast and Miss Bruce took to the stage to sing “Sweet Home Alabama” for Falcon and did a great job! The other Houses were visibly nervous with their high score!
Kestrel House Captains approached the stage next to congratulate the Singstar winners. Miss Dracup has been meeting with the competitors at break times and recording their scores. Well done to Aisha Degia who scored 25 House points for Merlin;
Rahnya Taghi who scored 50 House points for Falcon; Jood Al Asfoor who scored 75 House points for Falcon and this year’s Singstar Winner, scoring 100 House points for Osprey was Talia Sahin!
Mr NcNaught and Mrs Lonsdale were the next teachers to take the Singstar challenge and sing “Always On My Mind” for Kestrel. They did really well, but left Falcon feeling confident!
The Merlin House Captains stepped up next to introduce a video of the highlights of the Junior Sports Days and Swimming Galas. They also called for Mr Stephenson and Mrs Ross to step up and sing “ABC” for Merlin. They were ecstatic with their score which put them in the lead so far!
Last but not least, Osprey came on stage to remind everyone to take their House T-shirts with them on holiday. For having your photo taken on holiday in your House T-shirt, you score 10 House points for your House. They also introduced the new twist to the ongoing competition. If anyone brings in a photo with them reading on holiday with their House T-shirt on they get an extra 10 House points for their House. But not only that! If you have your photo taken reading on holiday in front of a landmark, for example the Eiffel Tower, you score an extra 10 House points for your House! That’s a potential of 30 House points and 5 House points for yourself for bringing in the photo!
All photos are displayed on the House board near the school reception.
To round off the Singstar competition, Mr Evans and Mrs Etches stepped up to the challenge and sang a Roxy Music song with some cool dance moves. Unfortunately their efforts were not enough to win. The final score was:
4th Place Kestrel - 25 House points
3rd Place Falcon - 50 House points
2nd Place Osprey - 75 House points
1st Place Merlin - 100 House points
Miss Dracup and Miss McCloud rounded up the assembly with a song fitting for the holiday! Everyone sang and the atmosphere was fantastic!
Well done to all the House Captains. You did a great job and your confidence will grow for the next one!
