The Dinar Challenge

In March, all Year 8 Religious Education students were given the challenge to raise money as part of their course on understanding charity.

Their mission was twofold. First they had to take 1 BD each and turn it into as much profit as possible. They then had to decide which charities they wanted to support and why, giving presentations in class. Many students baked brownies and cakes every night, while others made items to sell and one student even organised a music concert using his 1 BD to cover the cost of flyers. Presentations in RE lessons about the charities themselves were outstanding and in the end the students choose to support RIA, BSPCA, Cancer Research (Royal Sick Children’s Hospital, Edinburgh) and The World Wide Fund for Nature.

The final amount raised was over 1800BD which is a staggering profit margin! With such success we now hope to make the event an annual one.
