St Christopher’s held it’s first truly cross-phase Dance Assembly at the end of the last school year. It was an enormous success, with dancers from Year 1 through to Year 10 performing to the school. The Infant and Junior School were delighted when Miss Richards and Mrs Murphy said they had a group of Year 7 and a group of Year 9 and 10 students who had created their own dances to perform in our assembly. Year 7 performed an energetic dance with some boys demonstrating their breakdancing skills, while Year 9 and 10 demonstrated moves that gave the Infants and Juniors something to aspire to.
Year 6 studied Rock ‘n’ Roll as part of their History day this year, while Year 2 studied it in their dance module. The assembly was a great opportunity for both year groups to perform together to “Great Balls of Fire” and “Rock Around The Clock.” Year 1 showed us some country dancing with their Circassian Circle, while Year 2 danced a well rehearsed pattern with the ribbons. Year 2 also gave us a taste of the South Pacific Islands with their dance that was created from tribal movements. The girls hulaed, while the boys demonstrated hunting and rowing type actions.
With the great success of High School Musical, the cast put all their energy into performing “All in this Together,” which was choreographed by Mrs Holness for the show.
It wouldn’t be a dance assembly without some breakdancing! Year 1 through to Year 6 took turns showing off their moves to “Club Can’t Handle Me” with rapturous applause from the audience.
To round off the assembly, the Year 9 and 10s helped Miss Lambert lead the entire Sports Hall in the “Cha Cha Slide!” It was a fantastic way to end the assembly and to round off the year!
Well done to everyone. You were fabulous!
